Characteristics

With the onset of winter, you really want more comfort and warmth in your home. But property owners are also pleased with the modest electricity bill. If you install a gas boiler in your home, you will be able to enjoy its power and energy efficiency. However, today there are a huge variety of such devices in the store, and making the right choice can sometimes be quite difficult. Among others, you will find Gepard gas boilers, which have been known to Russian consumers for many years. This equipment is inexpensive, high-quality, and also belongs to the middle class and has European quality. You can verify this by reading the characteristics presented below.

Characteristics

Gas boilers "Gepard" of a double-circuit type are used for heating and providing housing with hot water supply. The liquid is heated separately, sanitary water goes to the radiators and the bathroom, while drinking water goes to the kitchen. The system has a built-in water heater, the volume of which can range from 30 to 60 liters. If there are several water intake points in the house, then a larger volume of liquid is consumed, in this case it is best to install the second option.

Single-circuit gas boilers "Gepard" have a maximum flow rate of heated water without unnecessary load. The designs use room temperature controllers, and the heating fluid and water supply system are heated separately. Among the manufacturer’s popular models is the Protherm “Panther 25 KTV”. This is a wall-mounted equipment with a maximum power of 24.6 kW. The device has a closed combustion chamber and costs 33,600 rubles. If we are talking about the Protherm “Cheetah 23 MTV” model, then its maximum power is 23.3 kW, and the cost is 27,600 rubles. The Cheetah series is represented by both closed and open combustion chambers. The first version of boilers can be installed in a room where there is no chimney. This is ensured by a coaxial system, through which gases are removed.

Reviews of the boiler "Proterm Gepard 23 MTV"

If you are interested in Cheetah gas boilers, then you can pay attention to the characteristics of the model mentioned in the subtitle. Installation in an apartment will take a minimum amount of time and money, the equipment will be able to maintain a comfortable temperature. Heating is carried out within the range from 38 to 60 °C for hot water supply, and from 38 to 80 °C for the heating system. According to buyers, the design reacts quite sensitively to hard water, so it is best to take care of the cleanliness of the liquid. For this purpose, a filter is installed. Buyers also like the fact that this equipment is sold without markups, so they can purchase devices at a minimal cost.

Boiler installation

Gas boilers "Cheetah", reviews of which you were able to read above, must be installed taking into account the requirements; they require an area that must be equal to 4 m2 or more. The ceiling height should be 2.5 m. The door width should be equivalent to 80 cm, the unit should be illuminated through openings. The presence of window openings is also stipulated by the rules. For every 10 m2 of room there must be at least 0.3 m2 of windows. When installing a Proterm Cheetah gas boiler, it is important to ensure good ventilation in the room, because gas combustion is ensured by fresh air. The area of the opening for oxygen supply should be equivalent to 8 cm 2 for each kilowatt of power. The pipes through which gas will be transported must be made of metal. Flexible hoses are used only for connecting consumers.

The equipment's power supply system must have a circuit breaker with thermal protection. Gas equipment must be located in the basement of a private residential building. If we are talking about a multi-storey apartment building, then a gas boiler cannot be placed in the basement. The Proterm Cheetah gas boiler must be equipped with a meter. It should be kept at least 20 cm away from it, this also applies to flammable materials. Depending on the power of the equipment, the distance between the wall and the boiler can be from 30 to 50 cm.

Boiler structure

The gas boiler "Gepard 23" consists of a housing, inside of which there is a combustion chamber. The outside of its walls are covered with insulating material. At the bottom there is a gas burner device and an igniter. On top is the main heat exchanger made of heat-resistant steel or cast iron, through which the coolant passes. The secondary heat exchanger is located outside the combustion chambers. An automatic element is installed in front of the burner, which includes a gas valve and a thermostatic regulator. To mix and distribute water flows, it is used. In addition to the main equipment, the device is equipped with a circulation pump, an expansion tank and a fan for forced supply of fresh air.

Main boiler malfunctions

The Cheetah gas boiler, the price of which was mentioned above, may encounter some malfunctions during operation. For example, error f28 on the display indicates that the ignition attempt was unsuccessful. The injectors should be blown out and the gas supply checked. After this, you need to try to re-ignite. But if you see error f75 on the display, this indicates a repeat of the error checking the pressure level. In this case, you should call a specialist to inspect the condition of the heating system.

Conclusion

After installing the Gepard gas equipment, the first settings must be performed by a company specialist. This is required in order to select the most suitable pressure level for the heating system and set the temperature indicators at the desired level. Otherwise, the equipment may not be covered by warranty.

Control functions of the Protherm Gepard gas boiler

Ignition of the burner depending on the preliminary state of the apparatus

If the boiler was turned off: When you turn on the device using the mains switch, the water circulation in the heating circuit is checked.

The procedure is as follows: the pump run-on mode is started to determine the temperature, the presence of a heat demand in the heating circuit is determined; if there is no request, exit to the burner blocking mode; if there is a request, further process: the burner will turn on at 90% power for 3 seconds, or the temperature should increase by at least 5 K.

If not, the burner will be turned on at maximum power for 15 seconds.

As soon as a temperature rise of 5K is detected, the burner will switch to normal operation.

Otherwise, the boiler will indicate a fault and block operation.

This will be the same error as when there is insufficient coolant pressure.

This function provides protection in case of overheating, in case of a lack of water in the heating circuit, in the presence of air in the heating system, or in case of pump blockage.

If the boiler has already been turned on: The principle is the same, except that the device is turned on at approximately 60% of maximum power, and the temperature increases by 2K instead of 5K.

After the “ignition” phase, the regulator controls the burner during heating of the heating circuit (initial phase - reduction to Pmin to analyze the dynamics of temperature changes) or hot water (power is adjusted according to current need).

Adjusting the coolant temperature

After starting the wall-mounted boiler Proterm Gepard 23 mtv/23 mov, 11 mtv, it works with minimum power in the range from 1 to 5 minutes:

1 minute if heating requirements are high;
- 5 minutes if heating requirements are low.

After this period, the power is adjusted according to the heating system requirement.

The burner turns off when the set coolant temperature reaches + 2K.

You can also use a room thermostat of a two-position principle (on/off), but with less efficiency.

Domestic hot water heating control

Boiler heating control (only for single-circuit devices):

There are two types of control installed for heating the boiler: either regulation from the thermostat side (ON/OFF contact) or regulation from the NTC sensor based on the thermistor.

In any case, the burner is turned on to heat the tank with a preliminary 30-second run-out of the pump. This helps to avoid blocking the boiler if the temperature difference between the boiler and heater temperatures is too high.

Boiler equipped with thermostat:

The burner turns on when the thermostat contacts are closed,
- thermostat switch-off temperature - 75C (burner turns off at 80C).
- opening the thermostat contacts stops the burner and turns on the pump overrun for 30 seconds.

Boiler equipped with an NTC sensor:

The boiler temperature is set directly in the user menu on the control panel of the Proterm Gepard double-circuit boiler.

The NTC sensor allows you to constantly monitor the temperature in the boiler and subsequently control the temperature of the coolant in the primary circuit.

A request to heat the boiler occurs when the temperature in it drops below the set value by 5 degrees, the control panel switches to the DHW position and the boiler pump turns on.

Boiler heating stops when the NTC sensor records the set water temperature in the boiler. The pump runs for 30 seconds (3-way valve still in hot water position) and then stops.

When the boiler is equipped with an NTS sensor, the boiler heating is controlled by self-change: the sensor measures the temperature 5 minutes after the burner is turned off.

If the set point has been exceeded, a correction is applied to subsequent heating (the burner will switch off at a lower temperature to prevent this excess temperature from reoccurring).

The coolant temperature is calculated depending on the set DHW temperature. The coolant temperature is always 15 K higher than the set DHW temperature.

Heating control during water collection (only for dual-circuit devices)

Determination of requirements: The burner starts at a flow rate of 1.5 l/min.

Switches off at 1.1 l/min. This hysteresis is a protection against periodic switching on/off of the burner.

Temperature control: The hot water temperature is controlled by setting the design temperature on the supply line of the device. This calculation depends on the dynamics of the flow rate of running water and its set temperature.

The calculated primary flow temperature will be adjusted depending on the return temperature sensor (NTC 5), which allows the influence of the incoming cold water temperature to be taken into account.

Hot start function - Comfort (only for dual-circuit models)

The hot start function is designed to maintain the temperature in the primary circuit of the boiler to improve comfort when using hot water for domestic needs:
Reducing waiting time at the hot water tap;

- water conservation.

This function is implemented only on Protherm Gepard 23 mtv/23 mov, 11 mtv and is relevant at short distances from the heat generator to the water collection point.

Economy mode in relation to gas consumption – the “hot start” function is disabled (factory setting).

Principle of operation:

The burner switches on when the temperature in the primary circuit drops 30 K below the set DHW temperature.

The burner switches off when the temperature reaches a difference of 10 K below the set DHW temperature.

The ECO symbol will appear on the display when the set DHW temperature is below 50C.

Other functions of the Gepard gas boiler

Frost protection

Frost protection will work if the coolant temperature is below 12C.

The pump will turn on for 10 minutes, the priority valve will switch to the middle position (the heated coolant will flow simultaneously into the heating circuit and into the plate heat exchanger circuit):

If the temperature is below 7C, the burner will light and the coolant will heat up to 35°C.

If the coolant temperature is in the range from 7 to 15C, the burner will turn on after 30 minutes and heat the coolant to 35C.

When the coolant temperature is above 15C, only the pump will work, which will turn off after a 30-minute run-on.

Overheat protection and temperature limits

NTC sensors on the flow/return line protect the boiler from overheating by checking the maximum output temperature (97C with the burner on or a rapid rise in temperature above 110C within 3 seconds).

Additional conditions related to coolant flow in the heating system:

Control of the rate of temperature increase (maximum dynamics of temperature increase = 10K/sec.)
- control of the temperature difference between supply and return:

If T is greater than 30K, the burner operates at min. power for 10 minutes

If T is greater than 35K, error F23 will appear on the display.

If the error repeats 5 times, the boiler will turn off with the final detection of error F23, after which a “restart” will be required.

If the burner has been running for at least 60 seconds, the counter is reset to zero.
